Be Irish for a Day!

ShaeLaurel blends Celtic and pop favorites with traditional Irish step and American dance. This thrilling family act will perform on Friday, March 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the Sunrise Civic Center Theatre (10610 West Oakland Park Boulevard). Reserved seating is just $16 for adults and $12 for children.

On Saturday, March 20, at 2:00 p.m., the Theatre will host West Side Story, The Ballet, performed by the Russian Ballet of Orlando. The timeless story of star-crossed lovers is told through spectacular dance and colorful costumes. Reserved seating is $16 for adults, $14 for students and $12 for children.

FREE Community Block Party this Saturday

Don't miss the Sam's Club Community Block Party and Family Fun Fest, set for Saturday, March 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This annual event features children's rides, games and face painting, as well as free refreshments. There will also be a Bicycle Rodeo and a Diaper Derby & Toddler Trot.

The Police Department will conduct demonstrations. In addition, Sunrise Fire-Rescue vehicles will be on display, and staff will conduct show-and-tell sessions and vehicle extrication demonstrations. Emergency Management representatives will be on hand to answer questions about disaster preparedness.

Stanley C. Panther - honorary Co-Chairman of the City's Census Committee - will be at the event from noon to 1:00 p.m., signing autographs and promoting Census awareness.

Don't Miss Out on our Grand Slam Giveaway

From March 14 to March 21, Sunrise Tennis Club (9605 West Oakland Park Boulevard) will host the BMW Tennis Championship. This prestigious tournament features some of the top names in men's professional tennis.

Residents can get in on the action for free! Through the City's Grand Slam Giveaway, each Sunrise household is eligible for two free tickets to one session of the tournament. Free tickets are available only through March 12 - and only with proof of residency. Acceptable proof includes a photo ID (driver's license or state-issued ID) AND a current utility bill, credit card statement or lease agreement showing a Sunrise address. To claim your seats, visit the Sunrise Civic Center Box Office (10610 West Oakland Park Boulevard) on Tuesday, Friday or Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or Wednesday or Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Save the Date: Earth Day Festival on April 10

The City of Sunrise will host its second annual Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The event will take place at Sawgrass Sanctuary, a 20-acre park and environmental learning center just east of Weston Road, near the junction of I-75, I-595 and the Sawgrass Expressway (237 North New River Circle, Sunrise 33326).

The Festival will feature resources for greener living, a farmers' market (new this year!), festival foods, ethnic specialties, and unique and handcrafted goods. There will also be a Kids' Korner with inflatables, face painting, hands-on activities and more.

In addition, this year's event includes a full day of live entertainment:
11:00 a.m. Eco-Chic Fashion Show - inventive, upcycled designs
11:30 a.m. Randy Kaplan - A fun, blues-y concert for kids
12:45 p.m. PALO! - Afro-Cuban funk
2:00 p.m.   Randy Kaplan - the singer/songwriter's tunes for grown-ups
3:15 p.m.   Ruffhouse - reggae, calypso and soca
4:30 p.m.   Mike Dunn & the Kings of New England - authentic, original Florida roots rock

Festival admission is free! The first 1,000 attendees will receive a Whole Foods Market reusable compact shopping bag, as well as a BPA-free water bottle. The bottle can be refilled throughout the day at the Festival's complimentary Water Station.

The Earth Day Festival is presented by the City of Sunrise Utilities Department and All Service. Additional sponsors include Whole Foods Market Coral Springs, Majic 102.7, Mizner Productions, Goodwill South Florida, the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Aveda Institute South Florida, and ServPro.
